Lithium ion batteries are widely used in many applications now days. Devices or facilities that powering by lithium ion batteries are in a very large range, from very small formats, such as blue tooth headphones, to very large formats, such as windmill battery storage stations.
The latest very hot applications for lithium ion battery are EVs, PHEVs, HEVs., i.e. the automobile industry.
It is projected as showed in below diagram that the demand of lithium ion battery from auto industry may account for 50% market share. Plus, in a very short time frame.
It is not a very long time ago that some auto manufacturers, such Volvo, as well as some European countries, such as France, announced the strategies for electric vehicles.

In past 30 years, lithium ion battery are primarily used in portable electronics, power tools etc. Technologies and engineering are tailored for these applications. However, the requirements from automobile industry are quite different from those for portable electronics, the fundamentals of the battery theory are not changed though. New technologies and new engineering design are needed ranging from materials, cell, pack, BMS, sensors, motors, etc.
SPI has been working on active materials for years. Technologies developed or/and under developing address the requirements for different applications, such as environmental friendly process, high energy density, lower production cost, secure long term supply etc.
