The History

Springpower International Inc. (SPI), incorporated on March 22, 2010 in Ontario, Canada, is a private company dedicated to the development and commercialization of advanced Li-ion battery materials and battery technologies destined for HEV/EV and portable electronics.

The Mission

Develop and commercialize cost effective, mass production technologies of lithium ion battery materials and advanced lithium-ion batteries that can enable wide acceptance of electrical vehicles and significantly improve the performance of portable electronic devices.

The Founders and The Team

SPI was founded by a group of enthusiastic professionals in development, commercialization and marketing of battery materials and battery systems. The team consists of former technical, management and marketing employees at Inco Limited, now Vale Canada, and world wide renowned researchers at University of Western Ontario, now Western University.

The team has a solid technical background and broad industrial experience in electrochemical materials that include lithium mixed metal oxides, carbon and silicon based anode materials for Li-ion batteries; substrate and active materials for NiMH and NiCd batteries; nickel and ceramic materials for SOFC; alloy catalysts for PEMFC and AFC, and manganese oxide based materials for supercapacitors, etc.

Furthermore, an advisory board is being formed to add strength in legal, finance and business development to prepare for the commercialization of SPI’s (1) mass production technology for silicon nanowires (SiNW) and SiNW based high energy density lithium-ion batteries and (2) a proprietary, cost effective, and environmentally benign production process for nickel rich, high capacity cathode materials for lithium ion batteries.
